Beskrivelse
This is a beautifully written, sensitive and always enjoyable biography of a great musician and his wife. It looks intimidating as it is a long book. But it moves the reader quickly simply because it tells a fascinating story. Scotland writes a revealing biography of a secretive genius. But he also provides his readers with a remarkably interesting history of some of the most important developments in 20th century music. While the book is about the Berkeleys, it is also about “modernism” and major figures like Ravel, Poulenc and especially Benjamin Britten figure prominently.
