I’m enjoying getting to know two of the great personalities of the 20th Century who just happened to have an intense romantic relationship. Very different people who contributed much to each other’s lives. Graham’s straight memoir was “Beloved Infidel,” which was a sudsy best-seller. This second book of hers is more focused on her craving for the learning she’d never had opportunity to get and the sympathetic education the great, completely educated writer guided her through in the years before his death. It fosters an appreciation for the sweep of literature in the rise of Western civilization and the true meaning of education, seen in its impact on two different personalities.
