Beskrivelse
Positivist philosophy in a diluted form still largely underpins the post-Enlightenment worldview of the secular West. Kolakowski gives a long and detailed overview of its development from Hume onwards. Towards the end of the book he takes an increasingly critical position as some inherent contradictions within Positivism started to come to the fore over time; and the thwarted attempts to reconcile these contradictions often led to greater philosophical confusion.
