The Teach Yourself library was designed for workers without the advantage of a university education in the subject of interest . Teach Yourself Latin has a specific goal: to provide enough grammar and syntax to be able to work through two lives from Cornelius Nepos’ biography of “Illustrious Men” , that of Hamilcar and his famous son Hannibal. Points of grammar and syntax are well explained with brief but ample examples, some taken from the texts of the future readings. The reading texts are complete, uncut, I believe, and there are notes to help with difficult passages. This book includes a vocabulary, an answer key to exercises- both Latin to English and English to Latin and a fairly literal translation of the readings from Nepos. This is a gem of a work! Like a small seed it has everything needed to aspire to its purpose.
