Beskrivelse

Author Don Moser and photographer Co Rentmeester have done an excellent job of presenting the geology, ecology, plants, and animals of the bridge between the continents of North and South America. Leaf cutter ants, army ants, snakes, sloths, monkeys, tapirs, frogs, sea turtles, jaguars, and numerous species of birds, fishes, and plants are featured in both text and photographs. We also journey through the volcanoes of Central America, the cays off the coast of Belize, the coastal enclave of Tortuguero on the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica, and the Mayan homeland in Guatemala. An account of the ill-fated Isaac Strain expedition in Panama in 1854 is included. The book concludes with a description of the attempts to conserve Central America’s wild areas. In conclusion, Central American Jungles is an excellent book about one of the many fascinating places that can be found in the American wilderness.
