DAVID MERCER’s “Ride a Cock Horse” is a play in three arguments and a nervous breakdown. The arguments are between Peter, a jittery English writer, and, successively, his wife and two mistresses. They are not about ideas or issues; they are about feelings or, rather, about one feeling: Peter’s inability to feel. There is a twinge there, somewhere, but it has as much external projection as an ingrown toenail.
