This is the first volume to David Brown’s famous four volume biography of P. Tchaikovsky. I think these biographies are great! This volume, like the others includes selected analysis of particular works. I think the aspect which makes this such a wonderful biography is that in addition to the research involved, which is clearly vast, Brown combines the anecdotal elements of Tchaikovsky’s life and times with analysis and explanation of the music. This book would be perfect for any serious music student or music lover.
