This dictionary is one of the very best of its time both in format and editorship. This is a well-crafted dictionary for the classic look and durability (red cloth over board), but the contents are much more gratifying for the wealth of these informations: etymologies; pronunciation keys on the bottom of every other page; clear-cut definitions; discriminative synonyms and other standard informations that no other dictionaries can provide. Yes, this is a half-century-old dictionary. Except for a few odd words or some new hi-tech terminologies that I have to look up in newer dictionaries by other publishers/authors, this is the dictionary I very often use. One must be kidding oneself to say that 142,000 entries in a dictionary are too limited for one’s quest for knowledge.
