Richard Wagner is the most written about, argued about, worshipped, despised, distorted and generally cotroversial composer of all time. He has been widely hailed as god or devil, sometimes both together. he is regarded as a prophet of the new world, social as well as musical (a view which he himself both held and propagated), and as the evil genius who was responsible for the corruption of the pure art of music and for the worst social and political aberration of modern times, the Nazi regime of Adolf Hitler.
