Beskrivelse
This is a pretty interesting way to look at some of Philosophy’s most meaningful questions. The author, an English philosopher of considerable reputation, focuses on the questions themselves, not the philosopher or school of thought behind them. Unlike Aristotle, Augustine or any of the more metaphysically oriented thinkers, Ayer presents a modern day, common sense point of view to philosophy’s most basic questions (citing Bertrand Russell, E.G. Moore, Wittgenstein). It is also safe to say Mr. Ayer has an opinion about every single one of them. The late Mr. Ayer even has opinions about his own contribution to philosophy, which is a “verification principle” based on tautological and empirical truths (he is still the public face of Logical Positivism, although it dates back to Hume).
